new organic products to try

I've been reading a lot of articles on nourishing oils to try on my hair. After a lot of reading I've discovered two very effective, yet underrated products. While everyone's wrapped up in olive oil or sending hundreds of dollars on Moroccan oil, you could be saving money by simply grabbing some coconut oil and mustard seed oil from your local farmers market.

COCONUT OIL:
Coconut oil is the only oil discovered to be able to actually penetrate the hair shaft rather than just entering the follicle. So it actually nourishes the hair already on your head. It helps reduce loss of protein, and aids in regaining your hair’s natural oil and moisture. Although many fancy hair products are discovering the hype and beginning to feature coconut oil in their products, you'll save money and reap more benefits by purchasing pure organic oil. Find it on Amazon for less than $10.

MUSTARD SEED OIL:
Mustard oil is even slower emerging in the must have rejuvenating hair products category. However, the world is missing out! Mustard oil is a natural product that promotes healthy, strong, conditioned hair and causes hair growth. The seeds of mustard contain calcium, protein, vitamins A and E, and if you remember from my blog on hair growth, are all essential vitamins in hair growth. It also promotes blood circulation in the scalp, how perfect can it be!

For most effective use, apply 3 times a week and leave on for at least three hours before rinsing out. You can look forward to healthier, stronger, faster growing hair in just a few weeks.

Day 6: Time for a trim !

Out with the old, in with the new! I know what you're thinking, if you were completely honest with yourself, cutting off all the dead ends would mean saying goodbye to nearly 5 inches of your hair. However, fight it all you want but hair that is dead is going to stay just that, dead. So, we have two options: number one being be bold and chop it all off at once, yikes! or... if you're some form of a pansy like myself we can take baby steps...

Dedicate yourself to a trim once every four weeks of just 1/2 inch. That way we won't be losing any length. You see on average your hair grows about 1/2 inch every 4 weeks, so you'd only be losing what you were getting back in return. Then by the end of our 12 month no heat/ no chemical challenge you will only be left with healthy virgin hair on that pretty little head of yours :)

Say goodbye to dead ends!

Day Three: Hair Growth Blues

So now that I'm on my journey to stay natural, I'm very interested in remedies to help speed along my hair growth process. Considering there will be quite a few trims in my near future I need my hair to grow FASTER so I can maintain a decent length, cause let me tell ya... ya girl is not the type to sport a pixie cut. And unless you're a Halle Berry lookalike, I suggest you check out some of these tips I've known to work.

Factors in hair growth:
-Poor diet
-Stress
-Heat/ Chemical damage
-Breakage due to constant tight ponys, braids, or buns
 and vigorous brushing

HEALTHY BODY = HEALTHY HAIR
Hair is made up of lots of proteins, so while good protein masks and treatments that you put on your hair promote growth, you'll also do good by making sure you put protein rich foods into your body. Chicken, eggs, beans, yogurt, salmon, or any type of fish are full of good protein for the health of your hair. On top of that, start yourself on a balanced vitamin plan.

Zinc: Spinach, sunflower seeds, mushrooms, whole grains, red meat and brewer's yeast
Inositol: Whole grains, brewer's yeast, liver and citrus fruits
Vitamin E: Cold-pressed vegetable oils, wheat germ oil, soybeans, raw seeds and nuts, dried beans, and leafy green vegetables
Calcium: Dairy, tofu, fish, nuts, brewer's yeast, beans, lentils and sesame seeds.

Stress results in excessive hair loss, so good sleep patterns and regular exercise helps release stress to stop breakage.

Brittany's Tips & Tricks :
-Stop washing your hair everyday! It's really only necessary once every 3 days depending on the oil production of your hair. Although make sure you're conditioning once a day and deep conditioning once a week
-NEVER sleep with your hair all out, buy a satin night cap to wrap your hair in over night. Sleeping on a cotton pillow case can cause breakage from the friction of your tossing and turning in your sleep
-Massage your scalp daily, it produces blood circulation in the scalp. Get your man to do it ! Tell him if he wants your sexy long hair back, he needs to play his part too!
-Trim your hair every 4-6 weeks (stop thinking you can avoid it, it has to happen!)
-STAY AWAY FROM THE HEAT AND CHEMICALS

Day Two: How to work with what you got

Okay so I know what you're thinking, the whole point of putting heat on the hair is to make it look good. Now that I wanna go natural, how can I make myself look presentable with these uneven curl patterns running through my head?

Being patient enough to keep your hair away from hair styling tools can be hard especially if you feel like you don't look good without them, but I'm trying to find out that I can!

So I've been looking up some simple hairstyles to give your curls a tamed look, and here are some good one's I've found.

Definitely excited to try these out! I'll post pictures of these tried on me along with some of my own ideas later today.

Have a great hair day, muah!
